For the first few years, I ran Element Turf the way most lawn care owners do — texts, sticky notes, a whiteboard in the office, and a lot of things living only in my head.
We had good crews and good clients. But the admin side? It was constant. Payroll questions, HR paperwork, crew scheduling, client follow-ups, property notes, estimates — all of it piling up faster than I could get to it.
I started experimenting with AI tools about a year ago. Not because I was chasing a trend — because I genuinely needed help keeping up.
What surprised me was how practical it turned out to be. Not sci-fi. Not complicated. Just: type what you need, get a useful starting point back. Draft an email in 30 seconds. Summarize a messy set of notes into a clean action list. Answer an HR question without digging through a binder.
We started building little workflows. “When we need to do X, here’s the prompt we use.” Over time, those workflows added up.
I realized other lawn care and landscape business owners were probably in the same spot I was — interested in AI, not sure where to start, too busy to figure it out from scratch.
So I wrote it down.
